What Your Child Will Learn

First campers will meet the piano! What are the parts of a piano and how does it make sound? Students will take turns becoming the parts of the piano (keys, hammers, and strings) and demonstrate the physics behind this acoustic instrument with their bodies! Then they will meet the keyboard and discover how electric instruments make sound in a totally different way. 

Next, students will explore rhythm with all kinds of games and activities! They will use body percussion, the piano, and lots of other instruments like shakers and claves to create a steady beat and play simple rhythms as a group. They will become experts at drawing and recognizing basic notes through fun art activities. Campers will even get a chance to be composers by creating their own short rhythms and joining them together into a class "rhythm train" we can play and display! 

We will use fun, simple songs to memorize finger numbers, identify black key patterns on the keyboard, and practice the musical alphabet. The big roll-out floor keyboard will be a perfect way to play games that reinforce the musical alphabet and help students find CDE white key groups. Singing and easy ear training games will be used throughout the week to help students identify changes in pitch and volume.

By the end of the week, every camper will be able to play at least one song and perform it on the big piano!
